Katarina Ivanović's Innovative Approach and Vision
How did you recognize the need of our market for the use of high-energy lasers?
Considering that our company NIC Pharmaceutical strives to import and distribute innovative medical devices, as well as to introduce new technologies in treatment to the Serbian market, we recognized K-Lasers as necessary devices for the work of every medical professional, because their effective application saves valuable time for doctor, and therefore for the patient. Our task is to be a logistical support for the Physiomed Plus office in terms of the modern equipment that the office has. The joy is always shared, because the goal of our business is a satisfied end user, i.e. the patient.
How are these modern medical devices different from earlier technologies of a similar kind?
The differences are numerous, starting from the design of the device itself (light, small, portable) and up to the performance they have. K-Lasers work at multiple wavelengths and combine all of them to achieve the best therapeutic effect.
What does traditional medicine say about their use?
Traditional medicine relies on established and generally accepted methods, but certainly tends towards the introduction of new technologies.
Laser technology is regularly used in the Physiomed Plus practice. What is its most common application and where has it proven to be the most effective?
Significant application of these lasers is in physiatry, ENT medicine, dermatology, dermatosurgery, as well as in antiaging procedures. For example, K-Laser reduces the swelling of the nasal mucosa in long-term allergic rhinitis after only one treatment. K-Laser technology has proven to be effective in podiatry as a part of dermatology. Onychomycosis is successfully treated after only a few treatments. The laser has also been used in the treatment of oncology patients, who, due to the long-term use of cytostatics, have a problem with mycositis in the oral cavity, caused by a decline in immunity and the effects of the Candida fungus. Until now, these diseases were treated only superficially (with disinfectant solutions), which produced slow and weak effects. The use of the K-Laser is a revolutionary discovery for these indications, because it solves the problem of mycoses in just 4 days. We also note excellent results in the application of the K-Laser device in gynecology: rejuvenation of the vagina, incontinence, in dermatosurgery: keratoses, warts, papillomas, condylomas, fibromas, in dermatology: scars, rejuvenation, acne, wound healing, ulcers, ringworm, rashes, hyper pigmentation, stretch marks. It is also used in vascular surgery: telangiectasias, varicose veins, angiomas, as well as for liposuction.
How do patients decide on a laser treatment method?
Patients choose this method based on the doctor's recommendation, although it is very important for the doctor to be informed about the possibilities of these technologies. We work to inform healthcare workers, and we train everyone who wants to work with the laser.
Who can operate lasers and do they require special training and credentials?
Only healthcare professionals are allowed to operate the laser. It takes training, of course. Training for K-Lasers is done at our office Physiomed Plus.
Are there any side effects and contraindications to be aware of?
We haven't had any side effects yet, because we pay a lot of attention to customer training. And the contraindications are few: black skin color and melanomas.
As a Master of Pharmacy, how do you see the development of new technologies in medicine?
Given that traditional treatment methods are often misused by the patients themselves (90 percent of them "self-medicate"), it is necessary to use new technologies as much as possible and limit the therapeutic use of drugs and devices exclusively to medical professionals.
